09 / CO₂ and carbon credit economics

09 / CO2 & Carbon credit economics Why circular carbon logic matters. ENSA TECH / WEBSITE REVIEW MAIN SCREEN | 09 / 12 ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY: incineration baseline x assumed prices; not verified reductions, issued credits or forecast revenue. Existing artwork from this conversation. This collection does not imply final approval or verified performance. C O ₂ L O G I C & E C O N O M I C S Why circular carbon logic matters. For polyolefin plastics such as PE and PP, direct incineration turns the carbon in the material into immediate atmospheric CO₂. Converting the same material into pyrolysis liquid can retain much of that carbon in a circular feedstock for further production. INCINERATION PATH PLASTIC TO CO₂ CIRCULAR PATH PLASTIC TO FEEDSTOCK Simple stoichiometric logic 1 t plastic × 0.857 t carbon/t plastic × 44/12 ≈ 3.14 t CO₂ PE and PP have essentially the same theoretical CO₂ factor when fully combusted. 1 tonne PE / PP waste Incineration (energy recovery) 1 tonne PE / PP waste Thermochemical pyrolysis process Circular pyrolysis oil 1 tonne PE / PP → ≈ 3.14 tonnes CO₂ Theoretical CO₂ from complete combustion Carbon retained in circular feedstock Process emissions still occur, but the carbon is not released immediately through direct incineration. Direct incineration Immediate oxidation of the plastic's carbon content. Circular route Material converted into pyrolysis liquid for reuse as feedstock. Economic potential If creditable, avoided CO₂ can create additional gross value. Illustrative carbon-credit economics* Example module: 50 t/day × 330 operating days = 16,500 t plastic/year Illustrative incineration baseline: 16,500 × 3.14 = 51,810 t CO₂/year At €60 / tCO2 ≈ €3.11 million / year ≈ €188 / t plastic At €80 / tCO2 ≈ €4.14 million / year ≈ €251 / t plastic At €100 / tCO2 ≈ €5.18 million / year ≈ €314 / t plastic * Illustrative economics only. Actual plastic operation credit revenue is not automatic and depends on methodology, certification, additionality, system boundaries, product use, energy mix, yields, and market price.
